M.A.V.G., born in 1938, is also known as Dr. Margaret Anne Violet Gill. A noted archaeologist of ancient Greece and Turkey, she now lives in quiet retirement in the Brecon Beacons, on the Welsh side of the Marches. Her wide-ranging creative activities include exquisitely detailed drawings of apples, embroidery, dressmaking, and more orthodox poetry such as her archaeology-inspired chapbook, “Small Finds”. Her work here, Typewriter Art (or Not?) is her first venture into visual poetry and was conceived as a response to receiving a copy of RUHUMAN: The Typewriter Art of Keith Armstrong, and developed into a Vispo meditation on mortality and religious belief. She objects to works that defy interpretation; her own all have a discernible meaning, though it may not be obvious at first glance.
M.A.V.G.（1938年生まれ）は、マーガレット・アン・ヴァイオレット・ギル博士としても知られる。古代ギリシャおよびトルコの考古学者として著名であり、現在はウェールズとイングランドの境界地域であるマーチズのウェールズ側、ブレコンビーコンズにて静かな隠居生活を送っている。幅広い創造的活動には、リンゴの精緻な細密画、刺繍、洋裁、さらには考古学から着想を得た詩集Small Finds (小遺物) のようなオーソドックスな詩作などが含まれる。本作品「タイプライター・アート（それとも違う？）」は初めての視覚詩への挑戦であり、キース・アームストロングの『RUHUMAN: The Typewriter Art of Keith Armstrong』を受け取ったことをきっかけに構想された。そこから発展し、死や宗教的信念をめぐる視覚詩的瞑想へと展開したのである。彼女は解釈不能な作品には異を唱えており、自身の作品はいずれも判読可能な意味を備えている。ただし、その意味は一見して明らかではないかもしれない。
